ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Withington wire binder was a result of a partnership between Charles B. Withington of Janesville, Wisconsin and Cyrus Hall McCormick, inventor of the reaper. Withington invented the wire binder in 1872, it was acquired by McCormick, and the patent was licensed to the McCormick Company. The company began to manufacture Withington machines in 1878, eventually producing over 50,000. Information taken from Icons of Invention by John W. Klooster, 2009.
