Bernegat Lighthouse
Barnegat Lighthouse was built in 1854 by the U.S. government. Oil-powered lights were originally installed in 1856 but were replaced by electric lights in 1926. It stands 176 feet above sea level and its beacon can be seen from 22 miles away at sea. The lighthouse features 228 steps in total. It was taken over by the state of New Jersey in 1926. |
