Run on the First National Bank
Elevated view of street scene of a run on the First National Bank. The sidewalk is crowded with people, spilling into the street. A horse-drawn buggy is driving past in the foreground. A tailor and a music store are on the right. On Saturday, April 22, 1905 the trustees of the First National Bank discovered that the bank's president Frank Bigelow had embezzled $1,500,000. He was arrested on Monday, April 24th and was sentenced to ten years hard labor on June 15th or 16th, 1905. The trustees were able replace the funds fairly quickly, so this run probably occurred the week of April 24th. |
