Noted on back of photograph. Notation by the donor, "One day Carl Sandburg, a quite frequent visitor to the 'Daily Socialist', came into the office with a young man whom he introduced as his future brother-in-law, Edward Steichen, a 'promising young photographer'. Steichen set up his paraphernalia, posing father in one of the old kitchen chairs which were the standard lounging equipment of the office, with this result."
