2019 Public Program Award Winner Announced
The Portage County Historical Society received the 2019 Public Program Award from the Wisconsin Historical Society for their program "Over There - Portage County in the Great War."
About the Program
The Portage County Historical Society produced a remembrance of "The Great War." For over a 7-month long period, PCHS sponsoring several varied events and programs that involved a wide range of partnerships. These included the following: museum exhibits, published seven different books, worked with a high school AP history class, a Speaker’s theater on the 100th anniversary of the United States entering the WW I, a lecture series sometimes including historic films, producing a video with students from UW-Stevens Point and a park dedication for a local WW I veteran, Admiral Albert Grant, that included family descendants.
About the Award
This award honors outstanding work in a new Wisconsin public history program. The award is presented to a Wisconsin organization that has launched an exceptional history public program during the preceding year.
