Bronislaus Celichowski (1872-1951) | Wisconsin Historical Society

Bronislaus Celichowski was a Catholic priest born in Posen, Poland.

Church Work

He migrated to Milwaukee in 1886 and was educated at Marquette High School and St. Francis Seminary. He became ordained in 1898 and served in Milwaukee at St. Hedwig Church from 1898 to 1909, St. Casimir from 1909 to 1915 and SS. Cyril and Methodius from 1915 to 1951.

Following World War I, he was sent to Warsaw and Paris on a peace conference mission and received several high awards for his championship of Polish liberation. He took an active part in Milwaukee civic affairs, particularly in bond drives during World Wars I and II. He served as national chaplain, Roman Catholic Union of America from 1914 to 1937 and as dean and consultor of the archdiocese of Milwaukee.
