Wisconsin: Our State, Our Story is the definitive fourth-grade Wisconsin History Textbook from the Wisconsin Historical Society. Full color and visually stunning, it provides students with both literacy and content skills. In it, students will encounter lively stories of the many individuals, groups, and events that shaped our past — from the retreat of the glaciers more than 10,000 years ago to the diverse state we are today.
Big historical questions designed to develop critical thinking skills, along with key words and timelines, appear at the start of each chapter. Chapters have multiple topics, each within its own full-color two-page layout. Hundreds of maps, photographs, historical documents, and artifacts from the Wisconsin Historical Society’s vast collections — and from other Wisconsin collections — provide students with supporting visual evidence. Chapter summaries invite students to explore additional content-enhancing resources.
Wisconsin: Our State, Our Story has been tested in fourth-grade classrooms and developed in consultation with reading specialists, curriculum coordinators, and teachers. The Teacher's Edition and accompanying Student Activity Guide provide reading strategies and reproducible materials that integrate all relevant cross-curricular Wisconsin Model Academic Standards. Wisconsin: Our State, Our Story gives Wisconsin teachers everything they need — and more — to teach fourth-grade history!
