1952 - Ada James Dies
On this date Ada James died in her home in Richland Center, at the age of 76. James, a well-known suffrage advocate, was the daughter of Laura James who was one of the founding members of the Richland Center Woman's Club, which may have been the first suffrage club formed in Wisconsin. Ada James went on to help found the statewide Political Equality League, of which she was president for two years. The Political Equality League merged with the Wisconsin Suffrage Association in 1912, for which James served as vice president. Wisconsin became the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment in 1919, allowing women to vote. James went on to work with and advocate for a variety of causes, including the temperance movement, world peace and pacifism, as well as assistance for underprivileged children. 1957 - Packers Dedicate New Stadium
