Museum Collections
The collections of the Museum contain over 110,000 historical objects and nearly 400,000 archaeological artifacts documenting the history of Wisconsin from pre-historic times to the present. Collections include anthropology, business and technology, costumes, textiles and personal artifacts, domestic life, and political and military life.
For academic scholars, collectors, local historians, authors, and the general public, these collections help to understand important trends and events of daily life within diverse social, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

The Museum Collections are housed in two locations:
- Exhibits: Artifact-rich exhibits explore Wisconsin's unique heritage at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, 30 North Carroll Street, on Madison's Capitol Square.
- Storage: A vast majority of the collections are housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society's headquarters, 816 State Street, on the Madison campus of the University of Wisconsin.
Objects in storage are available to interested viewers and researchers by appointment. To make a specific inquiry or an appointment to view Museum artifacts, contact the curator of the subject you are interested in between 9 am – 4:30 pm central time.
