Louis P. Harvey
Portrait of Republican Louis P. Harvey, while he was Wisconsin secretary of state (1860-1861). Harvey became governor in January, 1862, but drowned in the Tennessee River on April 19, 1862, while visiting injured Wisconsin soldiers. This is an unusual photograph for its time because Harvey appears to be smiling. |
