"Almost from the beginning, this massive five-story stone grist mill dominated the Cedarburg landscape. Built by Friederich Hilgen and Wilhelmliam Schroeder to replace an earlier log structure, the handsome Greek Revival design is executed in limestone, some quarried on-site, and features a monitor roof divided with clerestory windows. Most of the original 12-over-12 light sash windows still remain. One of the finest mills in the Midwest, its lower walls are 32 inches thick." A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg
