NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This is a one-story, front gable frame one room schoolhouse with drop siding and a stone foundation. The building is a pristine and rare example of an early 20th century one room rural Marinette County schoolhouse. The Lena Road School, as it was known, was built when cutover lands were first settled by pioneer farmers. The building has a cupola with bell at the front gable end. The bell, which is not original, was hung by the present owner. Fenestration is original and consists of five double-hung windows on the north wall, and one window on either side of the recessed central entry of the facade. The glass and panel front door features a single light transom. The exterior of the building exhibits a high degree of integrity. Minor alterations to the interior include removal of desks and blackboards, and the installation of a wall. The Lena Road School was used as an educational facility until 1959 when it closed. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It fulfills Criteria C as a fine example of a pioneer-era, one room rural schoolhouse.
