Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Known as the second Pamperin and Wiggenhorn Cigar Company Building, this two-story brick commercial building has the elaborate sheet metal bracketed and dentil trimmed cornice and window hoods associated with the late Victorian Italianate style. The original cast iron and copper store front remains on this structure that still serves the tobacco industry. This building was one of the first to use cast iron on the front- note the cast-iron half and quarter columns. Originally, it was a tailor shop. It was extensively restored in 1975-1976, one of the earliest restorations in La Crosse. Restored in 1975, the Pamerin Tobacco Company Building is significant as a well maintained example of the Italianate style in its original state and is historically important for its long association with Pamperin Tobacco Company. |
