About the Event

On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. The Wisconsin Historical Society is proud to feature events hosted by our local affiliates and other community partners as part of the statewide America250 initative.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, join us for a historic cooking demonstration featuring classic early American fare. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to prepare johnnycakes (hoecakes), a staple of early American diets, along with baked apples – a favorite colonial dessert – and warm mulled cider. Registration required.
