T-Beach Whittling Club
Two officers sit on improvised seats (boards on barrels) at the T-Beach Whittling Club, located on the north coast of New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). On the left is Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Fanning of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and on the right is Major Meredith Huggins of Salem Oregon. Major Huggins was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star and a Purple Heart. Signs behind them indicate where the different ranks should sit. The signs read, "Generals," "Colonels," "Majors," Captains" and "Other Ranks." Large trees with thick limbs are in the background. On the left are jeeps and on the right is a tent. |
