Michigan Soldiers and Captured Japanese Machine Gun
Six soldiers from Michigan pose with a captured Japanese gun. It may be a Japanese 12.7-mm (Fixed Mount) Aircraft Machine Gun. The soldiers were stationed at the military camp at Saidor, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). Their names (left to right) are Sergeant Emil Raninen of Detroit, Corporal John Risko of Detroit, Sergeant Donald Bruce of Royal Oak, Sergeant Lawrence Sibson, Jr. of Detroit, Corporal Henry Landreville of Detroit and Sergeant E. Frederick Bates of Detroit. |

Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. |
