The soldier with his back to the camera, at the range finder, is Private First Class John Putnam of Shelby, North Carolina. The soldier loading a shell into the breach is Private Louis Katz of Brooklyn, New York. The soldier opposite Putnam at the gun site is Corporal Willie Fisher of Salem, Oregon. Holding the next shell is Private Anthony De Marco of of Brooklyn, New York. Standing (left to right) behind the gun is Private First Class Harold Schroeder of Bangor, Maine, Private Gilmer Stetzer of Mindoro, Wisconsin and Sergeant Arthur Hoepner of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. |
