Bellafonte and Obey

Singer Harry Bellafonte, then the ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) testified on behalf of the fund before the House Appropriations Subcommittee chaired by Wisconsin congressman David R. Obey. Before the hearing Obey asked Bellafonte to autograph his copy of "Calypso." "Calypso" was Bellafonte's first album and the first album Obey purchased as a student at Wausau High School. In exchange Obey gave Bellafonte a copy of an album recorded by his blue-grass band. |
