Contrasting Tans on Buster Island
The caption in the Milwaukee Journal, says it best, "From the far-off Pacific (somewhere on Kwajalein), the picture of Ensign Ray Hanson and Robert Doyle came to The Little Journal. What a contrast in sun tans it provides! Ensign Hanson, formerly of the editorial department of The Journal, is an administrative officer in the Naval Air Transport Service (NATS), and Doyle, The Journal's accredited war correspondent, is doing pieces on Wisconsin boys anywhere he finds them on his long sojourns." What the paper did not reveal, was that both men were having a nude sun bath, this was not apparent because the paper had added black swim trunks to the photo. Both men are holding a metal beverage bottle. A thatched beach shelter and the Pacific Ocean are behind them. The Kwajalein Atoll is in the Marshall Islands, in the South Pacific. |
