When Glenn Curtiss arrived at North Island late in 1910 the island was virtually barren except for the hay barn that appears to the left in this picture. Later he added several tar paper sheds that werer nearly destroyed by storms. Despite its weather-beaten appearance in this photograph, the North Island school was one of the busiest airfields of its time. |
