The Wisconsin Historical Society is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most active state historical societies. Our work is supported by a combination of state funding, generated revenue and private gifts.
Who We Are
Since 1846, the Wisconsin Historical Society has been on a mission to connect people to the past by collecting, preserving, and sharing stories.
We believe history has the power to enrich and transform lives, which is why we provide unparalleled access through nationally significant collections, extensive genealogical archives, a world-renowned archaeology team, historic preservation expertise, civics resources, award-winning publications, and one-of-a-kind historic destinations and experiences across the state.
