John Kaminski returned to exhibition flying for the Curtiss Exhibition Co. after a brief stint as flying instructor at the Silver Lake School of Aviation in Ohio. He later recalled the incident in North Carolina as one of his most harrowing experiences. "My motor stopped suddenly while I was directly over [High Point.] My plane was at an altitude of about 2,000 feet and the only landing field available was a small orchard in which the trees were about 35 feet apart. My machine had a wingspread of 26 feet, and to this day, I can't figure out how I came down in this orchard without cracking up." |
