IH Model 1603 School Bus in Puerto Rico

This photograph was likely taken by the International Harvester Overseas Division for promotional purposes. It shows students wearing school uniforms and holding books while waiting to board a model 1603 60 passenger school bus. The "IH" insignia is just above the grille of the bus and the top of the bus reads: "GUAGUA ESCOLAR". The original caption to the photograph reads: "This bus is picking up school children on rural acres as per a new program started by the Commonwealth of P.R. 2 years ago and in which they supply free of charge, transportation for school children living on the rural acres. Because the condition of our rural roads International has been chosen by most of the municipalities because of their sturdiness in construction(?) and at the same time smooth performance." This photograph was taken in the municipality of Toa Baja, Barrio Candelaria, Puerto Rico. |
