Part of a poster series celebrating President Salvador Allende after his death. Allende was elected president of Chile in 1970, and promoted the nationalization of Chilean industries and collectivization. The Chilean military attempted a coup d'etat to remove Allende on September 11, 1973, and Allende was killed later that day. Poster has a red image over white, and white text on a blue background. Image is a screenprint of Allende aiming a rifle and includes the following quote: "They must realize this, they must listen well and let it sink into their heads: I will defend this Chilean Revolution and I will defend the People's Government, because it is the mandate that the people have given me." "I have no other alternative. Only by pumping me with bullets will they be able to keep me from fulfilling the program of the people." |
