See Image ID: 96150 for sketch. This mural scene was one of a series that formed the backdrop for a major agricultural exhibition at the Wisconsin Centennial Exposition at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, August 7 to August 29, 1948. Eight mural segments formed a continuous scene depicting the Wisconsin natural and agricultural landscapes from 1848. Six mural segments formed a contemporary 1948 Wisconsin farm scene. However, each segment can stand alone as a scene. For this scene, the artists depicted the modern farmstead with a neat and well-kept house, yard, and buildings, including, by 1948, the familiar large red dairy barn and tall silo. The old milk can holding up the mailbox provides a sentimental touch - a common scene along rural Wisconsin roads. |
