Sopwith Camels

British-built Sopwith Camels at the American Expeditionary Force 2nd Aviation Instruction Center near Tours, France. The Sopwith Camel, manufactured by the Sopwith Aviation Co., accounted for more aerial victories (1,249) than any other type of Allied aircraft during World War I. The name "camel" derived from the hump over the twin machine guns. |
