Grave marker for Samuel Warren of Middlesex, England, who was killed by lightning in June of 1838 at the age of 26. Warren was buried in what was the first cemetery in Madison and is now known as Bascom Hill. |

Excavations begun the year previous in preparing foundation for Lincoln monument circle. Feet and legs of skeleton uncovered. Excavation of balance of grave begun August 23, 1922. Gravestone then found. Graves fully uncovered Sept 4, 1922. |
