117 - Various Scenes from Joy Camps
Page from Joy Camps photo album displaying five photographs. For one photograph the original captions notes: "The old, original road along the Lake which now serves the Camp only. A very interesting old tree which we all love." Two other photographss, with counselors seated on the ground next to a building in one and a counselor standing on a dock with one foot on a boat in the other, are described by the original caption: "The three leaders of Cabin IV in 1939, and one of the counselors of Cabin V. These four leaders are typical of our counselor staff." One photograph shows a group of campers in costume; the original caption notes: "The outstanding social event of the 1939 season--the large and important party given by President and Mrs. Roosevelt (with the assistance of Cabin I) for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Notables from all over the world attended this very swanky affair." A final group portrait shows several campers lined up, each holding a metal pail; the original caption notes: "Members of the Camp Craft Committee on their way to a barbecue with the liquid refreshment for the event." |
