Outdoor view of one woman using a loom and another woman preparing fibers for the loom to create siding for housing. This image was taken or purchased by Carrie Chapman Catt during her trip to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). In her journal from Ceylon she records: "The women braid the fibres together making a crude mat of them. The trunks of the trees are set up in the form of a house and these mats are hung up to make the walls."

These lantern slides were either purchased or taken by Carrie Chapman Catt or others in her travel party. Carrie Chapman Catt was a suffragette who traveled to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), South Africa, the Sudan, Java, the Philippines, China, Japan, South Korea, Palestine, and India between 1910 and 1912.
