From Jim Allen: "1959 Prototype Scout Chassis with A-55 engine. The Scout was conceived before an engine was available for it. International soon put an engine into development but they weren't ready when the first chassis were, so the A-55 engine from the recently developed (1958) Metro-Mite compact van. As the first five prototypes chassis were built, some were powered by the A-55 engine and some had prototype 4-152 slant fours. The A-55 was a very low-power engine and inadequate for the Scout so only two to three of the prototype Scout mounted them early on." |
