Jacob Plow
From Carrie's journal from Palestine: "There were many terraced hills, covered with olive orchards. Men, women and children were gathering the olives, climbing tall ladders, and often loading big baskets on the heads of women or backs of donkeys. On all sides, men were plowing with their little, one-handed 'Jacob' plows and wore the unusual long gown. Women were carrying water jars on their heads." Carrie notes in this journal that they were not permitted to take photographs in Palestine. This image was likely purchased or taken in another country. |
