First Friends Program for Former Mental Patients
The First Friends volunteer chairman is Rev. Richard Larson, associate pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church. Helping the group get ready are Bill Sather, executive director of the Dane County Association for Mental Health, and Janet Hallen, psychiatric social worker at the hospital. Volunteers pictured include Ruth Line, Sharon Fistler, Julia Bollig, Elinor Brechler, Phyllis and Harold Saxton, Gail Belgen, Priscilla Medler, Evelyn Kertulla, Mildred Gardner, and Pat Elver. portraits of volunteers for a First Friends program to help mental patients from the Mendota State Hospital adjust to life outside the institution after they are released. |
