Omnibus Line in Front of Park Hotel
View from the street of a man holding the reins for a team of two horses and sitting in the driver's seat of the Omnibus Line in front of the Park Hotel on Carroll Street. A group of men stand on the porch steps. "This omnibus was driven by an employee of Beverly Jefferson Transfer Line, which maintained one of the largest companies of carriages, hacks, and wagons in this section of the country." -- from History of Dane County, p. 813 in Stanley C. Hanks Collection Notes PH 6095. Beverly Jefferson, for forty years was the the owner and manager of an important transfer line at the Wisconsin capital. He had lived at the Park hotel for 25 years, dying in 1908 at the home of his son in Chicago. He was 1/16 African-American. |
