Conrad Seipp Mansion

View across street towards a boy and girl standing on the street corner across from the granite mansion built for Conrad Seipp at 3300 South Michigan Avenue. The home features several chimneys and a tower with turret. There are ornamental ironwork spires on the roof. A billdboard advertising "De Luxe Line" stationary products stands incongruously in a vacant lot next door on the left. The house was designed by Adolph Cudell and was completed in 1888. Cudell also designed Seipp's summer home at Black Point on Geneva Lake, which was built at the same time. Seipp died in 1890 but his widow, Catherine Orb Seipp continued to live in the house until her death in 1920. The mansion was torn down in 1933. |
