Marines arriving at Soc Trang on a C-130 Hercules transport carrier. Soc Trang was an abandoned landing strip built by the Japanese during World War II. The C-130s were designed to move troops and equipment rapidly to remote locations, and they were used extensively during the Vietnam War. This photograph was taken by Milwaukee free-lance photographer Dickey Chapelle whose collection is available for research at the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. |
