Farwell Residence on Spaight Street
View along shoreline with Lake Monona on the left. A fence runs along the slope, and beyond is a small white building and behind, at the top of the hill, Farwell's octagonal house. The house was completed by Governor Farwell in 1854. In January of 1866 it was converted to the Soldiers' Orphans Home. The house stood on an entire block bounded by Brearly, Lake Monona and Spaight Streets. The home was razed in 1895. [Hanks describes this as 'Pump Carpenter's.'] |
