Chi Psi Fraternity House

Exterior northeast view from street towards the house at 627 North Lake Street, at the intersection of Lake Street and Mendota Court. Lake Mendota is in the background on the left. A group of men are posing on the porch. The house was built in 1892 for the Chi Psi fraternity, previously located at 602 North Frances Street. Chi Psi remained here until 1909. From 1913 until its demolition in 1924-1925, the house was occupied by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. The site was earlier used in 1853 by Daniel Gorham as the location for his steam sawmill. It was replatted for residential use in 1890. |
