A note attached to the back of the photograph reads: "Not many youngsters can claim the distinction of winning personal praise and the hearty handclasps from governors of two states hundreds of miles apart within a single week, but this was the unusual experience of Henry Stoehr, nine-year old fourth grader of the Kohler public schools who is making a name for his young self as the original 'Piccolo Pete' of the Kohler Junior band. During an open air concert presented by the juvenile musical organization July 2 in Kohler in honor of a delegation of international Rotarians, Henry repeated the piccolo solo with which he scored such a hit when the Kohler band serenaded Governor Frank G. Allen of Massachusetts last week in Boston. This photograph shows Governor Walter J. Kohler of Wisconsin adding his congratulations to those of the chief executive of the Bay state. Henry Winsauer, director of the Kohler band, also is shown in the foreground of the picture." |
