Map or Atlas
Werner, Wisconsin
This map shows streets, businesses and parks. The Yellow River is labeled. The Plat shows saw mills and land owned by D.R.W. Williams, Wm. Williams, and John Werner. The original caption reads, "Werner, Wisconsin does nt appear on modern maps. It was one of many logging communities which flourished for a time and then disappeared as the surrounding forest were logged out. The State Historical Society of Wisconsin has very kindly supplied the following information: A village "of that name was located in the Juneau County on the border of Section 26 and 27 in the town of Germantown. It was on the Yellow River, and it had a post office from 1857-1887; the first postmaster was William Warren. Most of the town site is inundated by Castle Rock Flowage formed by a dam on the nearby Wisconsin River." According to my calculations, it is about 110 miles (as the crow flies) North and a little West of Freeport." |
