Albert G. Zimmerman with Horsless Carriage on Rustic Bridge
View looking towards A.G. Zimmerman driving a horseless carriage, or early automobile over a rustic bridge. The bridge has board flooring and railings made of bent saplings. Albert is wearing a suit, hat, tie and leather gloves. Two men are standing on the unpaved road in the background. This is the Shorewood Hills rustic bridge, a picturesque highlight of Lake Mendota Drive. The Park and Pleasure Drive created the drive a decade earlier for scenic excursions in horse-drawn vehicles. To prevent trouble with the horses, early autos and carriages used the pleasure drive on different days. |
