International Bus Engine Illustration

International Bus Engine Illustration | Book or Pamphlet | Wisconsin Historical Society
Illustration of an International Bus Engine. Original caption reads: "International engines are designed, built and tested to stand the strain of constant every-day service. Sturdiness, simplicity, accessibility, ample power with economy in fuel and oil, are features of the International engine. [T]he four cylinder, block-cast, long-stroke type with great flexibility and a wide margin of surplus power. Connecting rods are I-beam drop-forgings, and the crank shaft is an open hearth steel drop-foraging. Adjustable valve rods are operated by a cam shaft entirely enclosed in the crank case. Valve stems and springs are enclosed but are accessible through a removed plate. Proper lubrication with minimum oil consumption is insured by a constant-pressure feed system, such as used only on high-grade, expensive engines. With the dash type radiator and sloping hood, spark plugs, magneto, carburetor, pump and all engine parts are easy to reach for adjustment and the radiator is better protected. Illustration shows type of engine in the 3/4, 1 and 1 1/2 ton International Motor Trucks."
