Construction of Fourth Capitol Dome
View from ground towards the construction of the dome for the fourth Wisconsin State Capitol building. The 1904 fire that destroyed large sections of the third Capitol building made the fourth building necessary. The fourth Capitol building had to be undertaken in sections over many years, due to financial constraints and the need for parts of the building to remain open for government work. Caption on back of image reads: "Substructure of dome and the first 50' of dome proper. Showing corner of south wing and the substructure and superstructure of dome up to 106' level." |
