Man Posing on Devil Statue in Wisconsin Dells

A man is posing in a running profile on top of one of two stone gargoyles that flanks an historical marker for the Dawn Manor in the Wisconsin Dells. Dedicated in 1955, the marker title reads: "Dawn Manor, Site of the Lost City of Newport." The gargoyles in relief represent those purchased and transported from Chicago in 1929 by W.J. Newman, the third owner of the manor. Helen H. Raab purchased the manor in 1942 and chose what she likened to stone bats to stand on either side of the Dawn Manor historical marker, because when she took ownership of the house it was full of bats. |
