Opening Day Fishing Season - Fishing Fever

Opening Day Fishing Season - Fishing Fever | Drawing | Wisconsin Historical Society
Elaborate pen-and-ink drawing of two fisherman at night sitting in a small motorboat (named PAM) on a lake. Large trout are looming over their heads with a full moon (with a face inside) in the background. One man is sitting in the front of the boat, holding a bent fishing rod with a taut line that is disappearing into the water with a fresh catch on the line. The man on the left is sitting in the back of the boat, holding the hood of his parka pulled over his head. His fishing pole is braced in front of him and is also bent over it with a taut line. There is a large splash on the other side of the boat. Insects are flying around two lanterns hanging from hooks one two sides of the boat. Sid's authorship is in the lower right corner.

Caption under the drawing: "For fishing fever, there's just one cure, catch a lunker on your favorite lure."

The drawing is inscribed to Joe Domerhausen.

On the back of the drawing is written: "There is an erie (<i>sic</i>) mysticism that haunts your senses when your go trout fishing on Devil's Lake. Your imagination conjures many illusory images that become phantoms in the night and feed the expectancy of a probable lunker nibbling on your worm or mayfly bait. One night Art Butterfield and I were fishing when both poles bent simultaneously. I had pulled the parka over my head to ward off the rising fog. Who caught the lunker? I had hooked it! It weighed about 4 pounds. The irony of the situation was that while Art worked hard I had nailed the trout with little or no effort. That's fishing."
