Drawing
Opening Day Fishing Season

Imaginative pen-and-ink drawing that appeared in the Capitol Times May 3, 1985 with Sid's caption: "Charlie Lunker Bass is down at the rustic barber shop getting all slicked up to give the anglers an early morning tussle. Janet Mermaid Sliter is pedicuring her tail while Father Neptune trims off the last winter's moss hair. Freddie From is rushing in to shine his scales. Sid Salamander is telling the nightcrawlers about avoiding the strangle hook. Orville Pike is trying out his sure-snap submarine suit complete with periscope. The sweet music of a springtime rhapsody drifts through the woods from the piscatorial organ. A landlubber trolls a kike line off Picnic Point. A troll hides a killer plug along a sandy shore. The sea horse rides the wind of chance. The expert shows proper landing technique in case you hook a whale. Neptune's trident has snagged a few choice baits. Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus' is predated by a fish standing on the half shell. The toad and snail agree that nature sets the pace for the annual fishing race. Before fish, all men are equal." Sid's authorship is in the lower right corner. |
