Amérique Septentrionale: Dressée sur les Relations les Plus Modernes des Voyageurs et Navigateurs, et Divisée Suivant les Differentes Possessions des Européens | Map or Atlas | Wisconsin Historical Society
This map of the north-west hemisphere shows the cities, lakes, rivers, mountains, and political borders. In the upper left corner sits a decorative cartouche, depicting a Native American woman breastfeeding a baby while a man watches over her, an alligator resting on a waterfall, Native American men hunting, and what appears to be a bear in a tree. The borders of the territories owned by the French, English, and Spanish are hand-painted. Other versions of this same map depict different borders, showing the French territories as much larger and confining British claims to the coast. This version, however, extends the reach of Virginia, Carolina, and Georgia to the Mississippi, but grants much of Pennsylvania and New York to the French.
