"I Owned a Tavern"
Two panels of a three-panel cartoon, arranged vertically. A wall and ornate fence are in the middle-ground of both panels. A woman in the foreground (JoAnn) is wearing a gown with wings, and on her back are the words, "Ohio Tavern." Behind the gate is another figure wearing a gown and wings. Text on top panel reads: "'I Pwned a Tavern,' said JoAnn, 'Sold Liquor, Wine and Beer!'" In the bottom panel the gates are open, with a harp floating on a cloud, with a tag that reads: "JoAnn." JoAnn is moving through the open gates, and above her the text reads: "The Gate Swung Sharply Open as St. Peter Touched the Bell . . ." Text below reads: "'Come in,' said he . . . 'Take a harp' 'You had enough of Hell!'" Red flames rise from the bottom of the page. The rest is in black outline. |
