Drawing
Opening Day Fishing Season
Imaginative pen-and-ink drawing of three fisherman, Clyde (Bud) Chamberlain with his creel, Stan Hamre, who has fallen backward into the water, and Carl Vogt, balanced on one leg, have their lines tangled while a prize, oversized trout is leaping above. Trees have faces, there is a man in a boat ignoring a massive water explosion, and an open sardine can on wheels surround the scene, and in the background in the center is a framed board displaying fishing lures. Sid's authorship is on the lower edge. |

This drawing appeared in the Capitol Times on Friday, April 29, 1983. Sid Boyum annually created an "Opening Day" drawing to promote the first day of the general fishing season, published from 1963 to 1989 in the Capital Times and the Wisconsin State Journal. In exchange, Sid would receive copies of the print to distribute on his own. For the photograph of Carl Vogt used in this drawing, see Image ID: 121982; and of Stan Hamre, Image ID: 121980. |
