A Plan of New York Island, with Part of Long Island, Staten Island & east New Jersey, with a Particular Description of the Engagement on the Woody Heights of Long Island, between Flatbush and Brooklyn, on the 27th of August 1776

Broadside map showing the British invasion of New York city in August and September of 1776. The map shows important cities, forts, roads, hills, mountains, meadows, bays, and rivers. The fortifications and movement of the American forces appear in blue, the British forces in red. Depth is shown though soundings along the Hudson River, and illustrations of ships, often accompanied by the ships name, show the sites of naval battles and invasions. Numerous annotations throughout the map explain the location and movement of the armies, along with dates. A reference key is in the lower right corner offering further information on the Battle of Long Island. |
