A New Map of the Cherokee Nation : Map with the Names of the Towns & Rivers : They are Situated on. No. Lat. from 34 to 36
Map
This map shows cities and towns, mountains, "The Valley," "open land for corn fields," and rivers in a portion of the Cherokee Nation. A few notes give details about "the River herein called Mississipi River" (i.e. Tennessee River) and Great Uforsee. The river labeled "branch of the Mississipi River" on the map is the Hiwassee River. Trees and a rolling hill decorate the title cartouche. Kitchin engraved his map from a Native American sketch of the region. The map is accompanied by two pages of text, which describe the expedition of Governor Lyttelton of South Carolina against the Cherokee Nation and the resulting treaty that supposedly led to an alliance between the Cherokees and English against the French.
